Volunteer for the
Remembrance Project
What You Can Expect from SJSA:
We will be respectful of your time and talent.
We will call upon you as organizational needs require.
We will provide support while you are working on SJSA projects.
What SJSA Expects from Volunteers:
We expect that you will be patient with our team.
We expect that you will act in accordance with our core values.
We expect that you will educate yourself about the issues that we are working on. If you are looking for a place to start, here is our Anti-Racist Guidebook (link to the anti-racist guidebook).
We expect that you will maintain open communication with us in the event that you can not meet your commitments.
Things to Know About This Project:
A member of the SJSA team will email you shortly after you complete the volunteer form below. You will be sent the name of an individual that has been murdered as well as a link (if possible) to provide more information about the individual’s case and serve as a starting point for further research.
Attached in that email will be a pdf that includes instructions for how to complete the block and what steps should be taken once the block is completed.
You will design and create an unquilted memorial block that is 20” wide and 24” tall when completed.
Blocks are to be completed within 60 days, however, please communicate with the SJSA team if circumstances arise that prevent such from happening.
If that sounds like something you can commit to, please complete the volunteer form here.
